Wholesale market price of many important commodities is behind the government support price

The wholesale market prices for a range of important commodities in India are showing a mixed trend in comparison to the government's Minimum Support Prices (MSP).

  • Wheat, Tuvar, Gram, Maize, Barley: These crops are priced above their MSP. For instance:

    • Wheat in Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) is priced at ₹2940 per quintal, ₹515 higher than the MSP of ₹2425.
    • Tuvar in Gulbarga (Karnataka) is at ₹7600 per quintal, above its MSP of ₹7550.
    • Gram in Bikaner (Rajasthan) is at ₹6000 per quintal, which is above its MSP of ₹5650.
  • Urad, Moong, Lentil, Millet, Hybrid Sorghum, Mustard, Peanuts, Soybean: These crops are seeing a decline in prices compared to their MSP:

    • Urad in Lalitpur (Uttar Pradesh) has fallen to ₹6700 per quintal, which is below the MSP of ₹7400.
    • Moong in Merta City (Rajasthan) has dropped to ₹8000 per quintal, below the MSP of ₹8682.
    • Lentil prices in Ashok Nagar (Madhya Pradesh) are at ₹5900 per quintal, matching the MSP of ₹6700, but below previous levels.
  • Coarse Grains: While the prices of Maize and Barley are above the MSPs, Hybrid Sorghum and Millet are priced lower:

    • Maize in Begusarai (Bihar) is at ₹2650 per quintal, above the MSP of ₹2225.
    • Barley in Jaipur (Rajasthan) is at ₹2400 per quintal, above its MSP of ₹1980.
    • However, Hybrid Sorghum in Latur (Maharashtra) has dropped to ₹3000 per quintal, below its MSP of ₹3571.
    • Millet in Dibai (Uttar Pradesh) is at ₹2400 per quintal, lower than its MSP of ₹2625.
  • Oilseeds: Prices of sesame, mustard, peanuts, and soybean are also mixed:

    • Sesame in Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) is priced at ₹10900 per quintal, significantly above the MSP of ₹9267.
    • Mustard in Bharatpur (Rajasthan) is at ₹5800 per quintal, slightly below its MSP of ₹5950.
    • Peanuts in Bikaner are at ₹5100 per quintal, below the MSP of ₹6783.
    • Soybean in Indore (Madhya Pradesh) is at ₹4100 per quintal, also lower than its MSP of ₹4892.

Despite the government's efforts to buy pulses and oilseeds, the prices are not seeing a marked improvement in many cases, particularly for pulses and oilseeds like urad, moong, and soybean, which are still priced below their support levels.
