Jaipur. Although domestic arrivals of mustard seed decreased to 4 lakh tonnes in December due to the off-season for supply, good arrivals in the preceding months resulted in a total supply of 100.75 lakh tonnes during the nine months from March to December 2025.

According to data compiled by Anil Chatar, Managing Director of Marudhar Trading Agency, a popular establishment located in the Chandpole grain market in Jaipur (Rajasthan), out of this total arrival of 100.75 lakh tonnes, 9.75 lakh tonnes of mustard seed were purchased by government agencies, while the remaining 91 lakh tonnes were available for the industry and trade sector.

Government agencies had an old stock of 7 lakh tonnes of mustard seed, and with the purchase of 9.75 lakh tonnes,

the total stock increased to 16.75 lakh tonnes. Of this, 13.25 lakh tonnes have been sold, and a stock of 3.50 lakh tonnes remains. High domestic market prices are making it easier for government agencies to sell mustard seeds.

The production of mustard seed in the 2024-25 Rabi season was estimated at 109.25 lakh tonnes, while farmers also had an old stock of one lakh tonne.

Of this, 100.75 lakh tonnes were supplied, leaving a stock of 9.50 lakh tonnes with producers by January 2026.  102.25 lakh tonnes of mustard seed were crushed during March-December 2025. This was made possible by the significant sales by government agencies.

The entire calculation can be understood as follows: On March 1, 2025, there was an old stock of 1.00 lakh tonnes of mustard seed.

During the season, till December 31, 2025, 100.75 lakh tonnes of mustard seed arrived. Of this, 9.75 lakh tonnes were purchased by government agencies, while they sold 13.25 lakh tonnes from their existing stock.

Subsequently, 102.25 lakh tonnes of mustard seeds were crushed, and millers and processors were left with a stock of 3 lakh tonnes of mustard seeds.
