New Delhi. A senior official from the Ministry of Food has stated that the Central Pool currently holds a total foodgrain stock of 608 lakh tonnes—comprising 222 lakh tonnes of wheat and 380 lakh tonnes of rice—which is sufficient to meet domestic demand and requirements. Concurrently, the procurement season for wheat and Rabi-season paddy commenced on April 1st.

According to the official, the government possesses ample stocks of foodgrains to fulfill the requirements of the Public Distribution System (PDS) as well as any other import-related needs; moreover, these stocks are expected to increase rapidly in the near future.

As far as pulses and edible oils are concerned, imports of various oils from Brazil, Argentina, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, and Ukraine, as well as imports of pulses from Canada, Australia, Myanmar, and African nations, are continuing without interruption.

This year, there has been a robust harvest of mustard, ensuring the availability of a larger quantity of mustard oil. The government is keeping a close watch on the food market and stands ready to intervene should the need arise. All shipments arriving via sea routes are secure and will continue to arrive on a regular basis.
