79 lakh tonnes of soybean is expected to be crushed by the end of May

Indore. Data recorded in the latest monthly report of Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA), an important organization of the indigenous vegetable oil and oilseed industry-trade sector, shows that in the first 8 months of the current marketing season i.e. from October 2024 to May 2025, about 83.50 lakh tonnes of soybean arrived in the domestic markets, out of which 79 lakh tonnes were crushed-processed. Apart from this, 3.85 lakh tonnes were directly consumed and 9 thousand tonnes were exported. After this, crushers / processors and producers remained with an outstanding surplus stock of 22.84 lakh tonnes of soybean.
During the same period last year, 89.50 lakh tonnes of soybean was supplied to various mandis and 86.50 lakh tonnes were crushed-processed. Apart from this, 3.50 lakh tonnes of soybean was directly used and 5 thousand tonnes were exported. As on 1 June 2024, a stock of 45.71 lakh tonnes was left with the planters/producers.
According to the SOPA report, the total availability of soybean is estimated to reach 135 lakh tonnes during the 2024-25 marketing season (October-September) with a carrying stock of 8.94 lakh tonnes, production of 125.82 lakh tonnes and potential imports of 25 lakh tonnes.
In comparison, in the 2023-24 season, the total availability of soybean increased to 149.06 lakh tonnes with a carrying stock of 24.07 lakh tonnes, production of 118.74 lakh tonnes and imports of 6.25 lakh tonnes. Usually, a stock of 13 lakh tonnes of soybean is kept reserved for the next sowing.
As far as soymeal is concerned, its old stock increased from 1.17 lakh tonnes in 2024 to 1.33 lakh tonnes in 2025. Last year, 24 thousand tonnes were imported from abroad, but this year there has been no import of it.
But the production of soybean DOC decreased from 68.26 lakh tonnes in the 2023-24 season to 62.34 lakh tonnes in the 2024-25 season.
On this, 16.63 lakh tonnes of soymeal was exported from the country in the first eight months, which was 1.78 lakh tonnes less than the shipment of 16.41 lakh tonnes in the same period of the 2023-24 season.
The use of soymeal for food purposes improved from 5.45 lakh tonnes to 5.55 lakh tonnes and the use in seed production decreased from 45.50 lakh tonnes to 42 lakh tonnes.
