According to CACP, Only 17% Farmers Benefited from MSP-Based Paddy Procurement
★ These figures are based on data from 2021 to 2024.
★ In the last three years, the share of total procurement from major states was as follows:
Punjab: 92.4%
Haryana: 74%
Chhattisgarh: 73.8%
Odisha: 57.8%
Telangana: 50%
West Bengal: 19%
Uttar Pradesh: 30%
★ Despite being among the largest rice/paddy producing states, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh have very low procurement volumes.
★ In the 2023-24 season, the combined share of these two states in total procurement was just 27%.
★ In the 2023-24 season (October to September), 52.54 million tonnes of rice (after milling from paddy) were procured, while in 2024-25 so far, procurement has reached 46 million tonnes.
★ Under PMGKAY (Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana), FCI supplies 38 million tonnes of rice annually.
★ These figures are striking and raise serious concerns.
