Bhopal. The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to buy soybean in large quantities from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP) in the marketing season 2024-25 and has also issued a formal notification for this.

According to the notification, soybean will be purchased in all the producing districts of the state. In Madhya Pradesh, the harvesting and preparation of soybean crop takes place from the end of September to the end of October.

According to the notification, the production of soybean in Madhya Pradesh for the 2024-25 season has not been estimated yet because the process of Girdawari has not been completed. Therefore, last year's production figures have been made the basis.

During the Kharif marketing season of 2023-24, the production of soybean in Madhya Pradesh was estimated to be 68.36 lakh tonnes.

This time the government has decided to buy 40 percent of the total production which amounts to 27.34 lakh tonnes.

The Central Government has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of soybean by Rs 292 or 6.3 percent from Rs 4600 per quintal for the 2023-24 season to Rs 4892 per quintal for the 2024-25 season.

The notification said that farmers wishing to sell their produce at the minimum support price will have to register and submit some documents for this.

This includes Aadhar card, bank account, land ownership papers etc. It is necessary for the harvesting farmers to show the contract of Sikmi.

Madhya Pradesh is the leading producer of soybean. Due to the possibility of better production there, the market price of this important oilseed has come down to much below the minimum support price, due to which the farmers are very worried and upset.

The Union Agriculture Minister had assured the farmers that their soybean would be purchased in large quantities at the support price.
