Buenos Aires. The Minister of Economic Development of the Latin American country of Argentina has announced a permanent reduction in export tariffs on several key agricultural products, including soybeans, wheat, and corn, as well as other matters and derivatives.
The primary objective of the export duty reductions is to increase the sales of these products in the international market and make their export offer price competitive.
According to the Minister of Economic Development, export tariffs on key agricultural commodities and derivatives will be reduced by 1 to 2 percentage points, which will help exporters increase shipments. This increased export revenue will increase the flow of valuable foreign currency into the country.
The Argentine government is in dire need of dollars to successfully repay its foreign debt, which is due in January next year. Tax cuts and increased profit margins for farmers will help boost exports, boosting dollar revenue.
According to the Minister of Economic Development, the export duty on soybeans will be reduced from 26 percent to 24 percent, the export duty on soybean products from 24.5 percent to 22.5 percent,
the export duty on wheat and barley from 9.5 percent to 7.5 percent, and the export duty on maize and sorghum from 9.5 percent to 8.5 percent. Furthermore, it has been decided to reduce the export duty on sunflower and its oil from 5.5 percent to 4.5 percent.
It is noteworthy that the decision to reduce the export duty on the above agricultural products has been made in principle and has not yet been implemented.
It will become effective only after publication in the official gazette. The official gazette is expected to be published soon so that maximum benefit can be reaped from the duty reduction.
