Availability of pulses increased in the domestic sector due to continued imports from abroad

The availability of pulses in India has certainly increased recently, primarily due to a combination of domestic crop arrivals and significant imports from abroad.

The fact that major pulses like tuvar, urad, lentil, Desi gram, and yellow peas are being imported duty-free has eased supply, which has helped stabilize the market.

The extension of the duty-free import deadlines for yellow peas and tuvar, along with continued imports of other pulses, shows that the government is trying to manage both supply and prices effectively.

With the pressure on prices potentially causing them to dip below the minimum support price (MSP), the government could indeed find an opportunity to purchase pulses from farmers at favorable rates to build buffer stocks.

This move could be beneficial in terms of price stabilization and ensuring adequate stock for the future.

It will be interesting to see how the situation evolves as the deadlines for duty-free imports approach, and how the government balances the import and domestic crop dynamics.
