Bangladesh government is importing rice to meet the growing demand
On November 21, 2024, the government of Bangladesh approved a proposal to import 50,000 metric tonnes of non-basmati par-boiled rice from SAEL Agri Commodities Limited, an Indian company, in order to meet the growing demand for rice in the country. This purchase, which will be conducted through an international open tender method (OTM), is expected to cost approximately 282.96 crore taka (Tk 2.82 billion).

This import is part of a broader effort to secure a total of 500,000 tonnes of rice, with this latest acquisition being part of that overall quantity. The decision highlights the government's response to ensure sufficient rice supply amidst domestic demand pressures.
