Basmati production expected to increase by 15-20 percent due to good increase in area

New Delhi. During the current Kharif season, there is a possibility of a good increase in the production of premium quality Basmati paddy and rice in the country because on one hand the area of Basmati paddy has increased and secondly, the weather conditions in the major producing areas are also favorable.
Basmati paddy is produced in Punjab, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and two districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Long grain aromatic rice is also produced in other provinces but it does not have the official status (recognition) of Basmati.
With the expectation of great production, the domestic market price of Basmati paddy has started softening, which has increased the concern of the producers. According to trade analysts,
due to good increase in area and favorable weather, there can be a huge increase of 15-20 percent in the production of Basmati paddy this time compared to last year.
According to the President of All India Rice Exporters Association, the condition of the current crop is looking good.
The rain has been good. Farmers got a good price for the last crop, due to which they made a strong effort to increase the area. During the last financial year, the export of Basmati rice from the country increased to a new record level and in the current financial year also the export performance is going well.
This time there are strong chances of increase in the production of Basmati paddy. According to APEDA, in the Kharif season of the year 2023, the area of Basmati paddy was a little more than 21.35 lakh hectares while its total production reached 98.45 lakh tonnes.
This time the survey of the area of Basmati paddy is being done by the Exporters Association. After the completion of this process, the picture of the yield rate and total yield of the crop will be clear. The survey is likely to be completed next month, while by then the arrival of the new crop will also start.
