Patna. Bihar's Cooperative Minister has stated that Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) in the state have so far procured 9.53 lakh tonnes of paddy from 1.32 lakh farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) during the current Kharif marketing season, and Rs. 1755 crore has been paid to the farmers.
According to the Cooperative Minister, the current target for government procurement of paddy in Bihar for the ongoing season is 36.86 lakh tonnes, but the state government has written to the central government requesting that this target be increased to 45 lakh tonnes and the procurement deadline also be extended.
Bihar has witnessed a good paddy harvest this year, and a large influx of paddy is being observed at government procurement centers.
The Cooperative Minister said that every possible effort is being made to make the paddy procurement process completely transparent and to monitor it regularly.
For this purpose, all District Magistrates (DMs) have been asked to prepare a list of farmers who are willing to sell their paddy to PACS.
They have also been asked to allocate a tentative date to these farmers for bringing their produce to the procurement centers so that farmers do not face any difficulty in selling their paddy on the scheduled date.
The DMs have also been instructed to open new procurement centers if needed, so that more and more farmers can benefit from the MSP. Payment for the paddy purchased from the farmers is also being ensured in a timely manner.
