Canada Chickpea Production & Export Update
Season 2024-25
★ Canada’s chickpea exports were higher than the previous year, reaching a record 220,000 tonnes.
★ The increase was mainly due to higher exports to Pakistan and the European Union (EU).
★ Despite record exports, larger supply led to a sharp rise in carry-out stocks.
★ Due to increased global supply, the average price dropped significantly to \$735 per tonne.

Season 2025-26
★ Chickpea production in Canada is expected to increase to 325,000 tonnes.
★ Total supply is forecast to rise sharply compared to last year.
★ Exports are projected to be lower than in 2024-25, while carry-out stocks are expected to rise significantly.

United States
★ According to USDA, the US chickpea seeded area for 2025-26 is expected to increase by 8% to around 540,000 acres, with production forecast to rise by 6% to 270,000 tonnes.
★ With higher chickpea supply in Canada, India’s chickpea export competitiveness may be affected, as increased Canadian availability could lead to more global supply and softer international prices.
