Canada exported over 45,000 tons of peas to India in August

Vancouver. The new pulses marketing season began in Canada in August 2025 and will continue until July 2026. According to data received, total pea exports from Canada during August 2025 increased to 90,741 tons, significantly higher than the July shipment of 35,439 tons and the August 2024 export of 16,632 tons. The highest export of yellow peas from Canada to India during August 2025 was 45,489 tons.

According to official data, total pea exports from Canada during the entire 2023-24 marketing season reached 2,405,939 tons, but declined to 2,183,525 tons in the 2024-25 season. Now, the new marketing season has begun in August 2025.

As for lentils, Canadian exports in August 2025 declined to 34,508 tons, significantly lower than the July shipment of 63,670 tons.

Canada exported 36,461 tons of lentils in August 2024. India was the largest buyer of Canadian lentils in August 2025, importing 7,124 tons. This was followed by the United States with 4,378 tons and Colombia with 2,639 tons.

During the entire 2024-25 marketing season (August-July), Canada exported a total of 1,835,212 tons of lentils, significantly higher than the 2023-24 marketing season's gross shipment of 1,683,525 tons.

Although Canada's pea and lentil production is expected to increase this year compared to last year, it faces a tough challenge from Russia and Australia in the international export market.

The prices of these two pulses have fallen significantly. Harvesting has concluded in Canada and Russia, while it has just begun in Australia.

Canada exported 12,927 tons of chickpeas in August 2025, down from July's shipment of 14,295 tons but higher than August 2024's export of 7,819 tons.

During August 2024-July 2025, total chickpea exports from Canada increased to 214,891 tons, significantly higher than the 2023-24 season's total exports of 108,366 tons. Turkey, the United States, and South Korea were the major buyers.
