Canada Pulses Market Update
Peas
★ According to StatsCan, pea acreage in Canada is up 9% from last year. Both green and maple peas have seen notable increases compared to previous years.
★ The pea market is currently in a slowdown phase, with old crop and new crop prices starting to converge.
★ Yellow peas (old & new crop):~ $9.00/bu (picked up)
★ Green peas: old crop ~ $16.50–$17.00/bu (delivered), new crop~$13.00/bu (picked up)
★ Maple peas: both old and new crop prices remain steady at ~$12.00–$13.00/bu (picked up)
★ India still holds significant pea stocks and current domestic prices are low, reducing the likelihood of import demand in the near term.
★ China also isn’t showing interest in feed peas, as corn and soymeal feed prices remain low.
★ Meanwhile, Russian pea prices into China continue to drop, limiting optimism for Canadian pea exports.

★ Small green lentils:~$0.34/lb FOB

~~~~~
★ Low Tuar (pigeon pea) prices in India are discouraging green lentil imports, and red lentil demand remains soft.
★ Currently, the lentil market remains mostly flat.
★ Acreage seeded is reported to be the highest since the 2001/02 production year.
★ In Alberta, 53% are rated good to excellent (slightly below average)
★ Exports remain steady, with Pakistan as the main buyer, largely due to competitive prices.
