Canada Pulses Market Update
Peas – Prices Continue to Decline
★ Pea prices remain under pressure as harvest progresses and demand from key export markets stays weak.
★ Yellow peas are trading around $8.00 to $8.50/bu delivered, depending on movement and location.
★ Green pea prices have fallen to the $12.00–$12.50/bu range, down about 50 cents from last week’s highs.
★ Reports of quality issues in green peas are emerging due to late-season rains, including bleaching, earth tags, and other damage.
★ Maple peas remain weak, with no significant market support at present. Without renewed Chinese demand, no major recovery is expected.
★ Harvest has also begun in Russia and Canada, and production is expected to be strong in both countries. Russia’s pea output is projected to reach a record 5 million tonnes.
★ With global pea availability set to rise, international prices may come under additional pressure.

Lentils – Prices Under Continued Pressure
★ Lentil prices remain under pressure as harvest begins.
★ In Saskatchewan, lentil harvest progress reached about 3% as of August 11.
★ Market weakness is driven not only by harvest pressure but also by reduced export demand in recent months, leading to higher carry-out stocks and limited upside potential.
★ Green lentil harvest is progressing faster than reds, which are only just starting.
Current prices this week:
★ Large green lentils: 32–34 cents/lb (FOB farm)
★ Small green lentils: 26–27 cents/lb (FOB farm)
★ Red lentils: 27–28 cents/lb (delivered, various locations)
★ Further price pressure is likely ahead as Australia’s lentil harvest will also begin soon. With crops arriving simultaneously in the Southern Hemisphere, global markets may face additional supply pressure, which could directly impact prices in India.

Chickpeas – Strong Export Performance
★ Canadian chickpea exports have reached 207,000 metric tonnes and are on track to hit a record 220,000 MT.
★ Despite strong exports, steady supply has kept prices stable and relatively soft.
★ Prices remain steady this week, with buyers showing interest in smaller parcels, and final deals continue to depend largely on sizing and quality.
