Canada's Agriculture Sector Impacted by Trade Tensions
★ Trade tensions with China and the United States have put Canada's grain farmers under significant economic and financial pressure.
★ Canada released its Pre-Planting Survey 2025 last week.
★ The survey projects an increase in the acreage of wheat, corn, oats, and peas, while the area planted with canola, soybeans, barley, and lentils is expected to decline.
★ Total crop planting in 2025 is estimated at 43.1 million hectares for major crops, which is a 0.8% increase from 42.76 million hectares in 2024.
★ Wheat acreage is projected to rise by 2.6% to 11.12 million hectares, with spring wheat increasing by 2.5% to 7.86 million hectares, durum wheat at 2.58 million hectares, and winter wheat rising by 15.1% to 680,000 hectares.
