Mumbai. Data compiled by Solvent Extractors Association of India - a leading industry body - shows that a total of 3,64,111 tonnes of castor oil was exported from India during the first half of the current calendar year i.e. January-June 2025, which was less than the shipments of the same period of the year 2024.
According to the available data, during the current year, as compared to the same months of last year, castor oil exports slipped from 53,204 tons to 52,926 tons in January, fell from 65,663 tons to 58,092 tons in February, from 72,801 tons to 63,373 tons in April,
slipped from 89,786 tons to 68,982 tons in May and got stuck at 56,412 tons from 59,737 tons in June, but in March this export improved by 65,170 tons and reached 65,326 tons.
According to the data of the association, a total of 6,49,510 tonnes of castor oil was exported from the country during the entire period (January-December) of the year 2024, while its quantity was recorded at 6,29,418 tonnes in the year 2023 and 5,82,399 tonnes in the year 2022.
This clearly indicates that the annual export of castor oil from India is increasing well. Castor oil is mainly used for industrial purposes and many countries of the world including China regularly import it on a large scale from India.
It is noteworthy that India is the largest producer of castor in the world and the largest exporter of castor oil and castor meal.
India dominates the global export market of value-added castor products and no other country is in a position to challenge it. In India, the highest production of castor is in Gujarat and Rajasthan, while some other states including Andhra Pradesh and Telangana also produce it in small quantities.
