Central and provincial agencies procured 256.31 lakh tons of wheat till April 30

New Delhi. Central agency- Food Corporation of India (FCI) and its associated provincial agencies procured a total of 256.31 lakh tons of wheat at the national level during the current Rabi marketing season which is 82 percent of the set target of 312.70 lakh tons and 24.78 percent more than the purchase of 205.41 lakh tons during the same period last year.
It is worth noting that during the entire period of last Rabi marketing season, a total of 266.05 lakh tons of wheat was procured by the government, whereas this time more than 256 lakh tons of wheat was procured till April 30. Soon the wheat purchase figure will cross last year's level.
According to official data, during the current Rabi marketing season, till the end of April 2025, the government procured 103.89 lakh tonnes of wheat in Punjab, 65.67 lakh tonnes in Haryana, 7.55 lakh tonnes in Uttar Pradesh,
67.57 lakh tonnes in Madhya Pradesh and 11.44 lakh tonnes in Rajasthan. Apart from this, 19 thousand tonnes of wheat was jointly procured in Bihar, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
In the initial phase, the Food Ministry had set a target of procuring a total of 312.70 lakh tonnes of wheat at the national level, with 124 lakh tonnes in Punjab, 75 lakh tonnes in Haryana, 60 lakh tonnes in Madhya Pradesh,
30 lakh tonnes in Uttar Pradesh, 20 lakh tonnes in Rajasthan, 2 lakh tonnes in Bihar, 1 lakh tonnes in Gujarat, 50 thousand tonnes in Uttarakhand and 10-10 thousand tonnes in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Since the actual purchase in Madhya Pradesh has surpassed the set target, the wheat purchase target there has been increased by 10 lakh tons to 70 lakh tons, due to which the target set at the national level has also increased to 322.70 lakh tons.
As compared to the set target, this time till April 30, 84 percent wheat was purchased in Punjab, 88 percent in Haryana, 25 percent in Uttar Pradesh, 113 percent in Madhya Pradesh, 57 percent in Rajasthan,
6 percent in Bihar, 6 percent in Gujarat and 10 percent in Himachal Pradesh, while 82 percent wheat was purchased as compared to the target set at the national level.
This time Madhya Pradesh has gone ahead of Haryana in terms of wheat purchase and has now reached very close to the new revised target of 70 lakh tons. The process of wheat purchase is going on in the major producing states.
