New Delhi. The Meteorological Department has said that there are indications of the formation of a new western disturbance in the northwestern part of the country. This disturbance may form today, i.e., February 16th, and due to its effect, many areas of western Uttar Pradesh may receive heavy rainfall on February 17th and 18th, and various parts of Madhya Pradesh on February 18th and 19th. According to agricultural experts, other Rabi crops including wheat need rain now, but the early sown crops that have now matured and are ready for harvesting may also be damaged by heavy rains.
According to the Meteorological Department, due to a western disturbance, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and northern Rajasthan on February 17-18. Rain or snowfall is also expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and the higher reaches of Uttarakhand, as well as Arunachal Pradesh. This may slightly reduce temperatures in the plains, which will prove beneficial for Rabi crops.
Currently, a northerly cyclonic circulation exists over the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean and the adjacent Bay of Bengal. Due to this, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the central part of the southern Bay of Bengal and the adjacent equatorial Indian Ocean within the next 48 hours.
Dense fog is currently prevailing in Himachal Pradesh. On the other hand, the weather is expected to remain hot in Karnataka and Konkan, whereas no significant change in minimum temperature is being seen in North-West India and Central states at present.
