ICE cotton futures extended gains on Thursday, with prices rising by 17 to 81 points. The U.S. dollar index increased by 0.234 to 98.655, while crude oil rose by $4.04 to $97.00.
Export sales of old crop cotton for the week ending April 16 were 119,947 bales, the lowest in 15 weeks. Vietnam was the top buyer with 62,100 bales, followed by Turkey with 22,400 bales. New crop sales totaled 57,078 bales.
Shipments were reported at 296,379 bales, a 5-week low. Vietnam was the top destination with 89,000 bales, followed by Pakistan with 46,600 bales.
On April 22, 546 bales were sold on the Seam platform at an average price of 68.85 cents/lb. The Cotlook A Index rose to 90.55 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks declined by 179 bales to 165,681 bales. The Adjusted World Price increased to 65.26 cents/lb.
