Old crop wheat export sales for the week ending April 16 totaled 129,022 MT, up from the previous week. Japan was the leading buyer with 59,400 MT, followed by Nigeria with 47,400 MT. New crop sales were minimal at 8,000 MT, mostly to South Korea.
Weather forecasts indicate limited rainfall in western Kansas, while little to no precipitation is expected in the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles. The Drought Monitor shows that 70% of the U.S. winter wheat crop is under drought conditions, the highest since 2023 and the most for this time of year since 2022.
Taiwan flour mills purchased 105,950 MT of U.S. wheat, and Saudi Arabia has issued a tender to buy 710,000 MT of wheat.
The International Grains Council lowered global wheat production by 1 MMT and reduced projected usage by 4 MMT. However, ending stocks were increased by 8 MMT to 284 MMT.
