Chickpea and Lentil Exports from Australia: ABS
★ Australia exported 13,674 tonnes of chickpeas and 49,707 tonnes of lentils in May, according to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
★ Compared to April, chickpea exports rose by 22%, while lentil exports increased by 25%. In April, chickpea exports stood at 11,195 tonnes and lentil exports at 39,719 tonnes.
★ In May, Pakistan was the largest buyer of Australian chickpeas, purchasing 9,420 tonnes. The United Arab Emirates (1,417 tonnes) and Canada (1,171 tonnes) followed as key markets.
★ Chickpea exports to India were negligible in April and May. Lentil exports to India also declined during this period.
★ For lentils, Bangladesh was the top destination, importing 27,938 tonnes in May. It was followed by Sri Lanka (14,896 tonnes) and India (3,515 tonnes) as the next biggest markets.
