China Cotton Production Estimate: USDA
★ For the marketing year (MY) 2025-26, cotton production is estimated at 6.35 million metric tons (MMT), based on stable planting area and a return to normal weather conditions. Imports are projected at 1.55 MMT, while domestic consumption is expected to reach 8.15 MMT.
★ The cotton production estimate for MY 2024-25 has been revised upward to 6.81 MMT. Imports for MY 2024-25 have been revised down to 1.4 MMT due to a good domestic crop and high imports in MY 2023-24, which have reduced the demand for imported cotton in the upcoming season.
★ Beijing’s imposition of a 140 percent tariff on U.S. cotton is expected to almost completely halt further imports from the United States.
