Claim of Adequate Seed Stock Availability for Various Crops

New Delhi: The Central Government asserts that an adequate stock of seeds for both Kharif and Rabi crops is available within the country, and provisions have been made for a national-level reserve stock to address contingencies.
Should the initial sowing in any region be adversely affected by drought or floods, suitable seeds will be immediately made available to farmers to facilitate re-sowing. This measure is expected to provide relief to the farming community.
The Union Agriculture Minister emphasizes that, alongside the supply and availability of seeds, due attention must also be paid to their quality. As projected by the Meteorological Department, the monsoon is expected to be weak this year.
In regions experiencing low rainfall, priority should be given to cultivating crops that require relatively less water for irrigation. Furthermore, seeds for all crops must be suitable, viable, and certified.
During the Kharif season, the primary crops cultivated include paddy, pigeon pea (Arhar/Tur), black gram (Urad), green gram (Moong), soybean, groundnut, castor, maize, sorghum (Jowar), pearl millet (Bajra),
finger millet (Ragi), cotton, and jute; however, various other crops are also sown across limited areas. Among these, the paddy crop requires the highest amount of water for irrigation.
