Coarse Grain Reserve Price Set for OMSS Sale

New Delhi. Along with wheat and rice, the Central Government has also declared the minimum reserve price for coarse grains to be sold under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS).
Although the stock of coarse grains in the central pool is much smaller compared to wheat and rice, it will still be auctioned or sold through OMSS.
Only private buyers will be allowed to participate in the weekly e-auction, and the minimum reserve price will not include transportation costs. The date of the coarse grain auction will be announced later.
The government has fixed the reserve price of ragi at Rs 4886 per quintal, jowar at Rs 3749 per quintal, bajra at Rs 2775 per quintal, and maize at Rs 2400 per quintal for sale under OMSS.
Since the open market prices of these coarse grains are close to the reserve prices, it remains to be seen how actively buyers will respond to the government stock.
Government agencies typically pay less attention to the procurement of coarse grains compared to wheat and rice, resulting in limited central pool stocks.
However, some consuming industries may turn to the government for purchases. Maize, in particular, is widely used in poultry feed, animal feed, starch production, and ethanol manufacturing.
The minimum support price of maize was fixed at Rs 2275 per quintal for the 2024–25 marketing season, which has now been raised by Rs 175 to Rs 2400 per quintal for the 2025–26 season. The government has not yet announced the quota for the sale of coarse grains.
