New Delhi. Due to better domestic production during the current year as compared to last year, the prices of coconut gola had been softening for many months and the producers were forced to sell their produce at very low prices.
It is understood that during the last six months, about two-thirds of the stock of coconut gola was traded at cheap prices and now the festive demand has started coming in the remaining stock.
As a result, the prices of coconut gola (edible copra) are expected to rise. Due to low stock and strong demand, its price is expected to rise by an additional Rs 25-30 per kg by Navratri, while an increase of Rs 10-15 per kg has already happened.
It is worth noting that the arrival of new consignment of coconut gola starts in February-March. Due to high stock of goods,
its price in the major producing areas of South India kept fluctuating between 85 to 110 rupees per kg from the beginning of the season till August. Now along with the shell, the demand for coconut has also started increasing.
It is understood that the processing plants do not have a large stock of dry coconut and the prices are also being increased there.
On the other hand, demand for coconut has started coming up in Eastern India and especially in Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Assam etc. for Durga Puja. If the price of coconut is high, the prices of gola can also get some support.
It will not be a surprise if the price of coconut gola increases in the major consumption centers of the northern region (especially in Delhi) and reaches 180-190 rupees per kg in the coming time.
It is understood that the quality of the old stock of gola has deteriorated due to heavy rains in centers like Jaipur, Indore and Gwalior.
There is not much pressure of supply of gola in the producing markets as well. The consumption season will continue till Diwali.
