Coriander Prices Decline: No Possibility of a Rally

08-Jan-2026 07:26 PM

New Delhi. Coriander prices continue to decline. There is no immediate prospect of a price increase as new crops have started arriving in the Rajkot and Gondal markets of Gujarat, a major producing state. Reports also indicate that new crops will start arriving in the markets of Madhya Pradesh by the end of this month.

Sowing

Reports indicate that coriander sowing in the country during the current season is lower compared to last year. According to available information, coriander was sown on 3.64 lakh hectares in 2024, which decreased to 3.37 lakh hectares in 2025. Trade estimates also suggest a 10-15 percent reduction in the sowing area for 2026. Coriander is produced in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

Production

Based on sowing reports from producing centers, it is expected that coriander production in the country during the current season will be around 90 lakh bags. Last year's production was estimated at around one crore bags. Production estimates for 2024 were 1.15-1.20 crore bags and for 2023, 1.50-1.60 crore bags.

Stock

Due to the decline in coriander production in the country over the past 2-3 years, stocks are also decreasing. Sources say that the stock of coriander at the time of the new crop in 2024 was 40-45 lakh bags, which decreased to 35-36 lakh bags in 2025.  The stock for 2026 is estimated at 20-25 lakh bags.

No immediate price surge expected.

Although coriander production and stocks are estimated to be lower in the current season, prices may decline temporarily in the coming days as the arrival of new crops increases. However, prices are not expected to reach last year's levels. Last year, at the time of the new harvest, the price of Eagle variety coriander at production centers was Rs. 7000/7300 and Badami variety was Rs. 6800/7000.

Exports

During the first seven months of the current financial year 2025-26 (April-October 2025), coriander exports increased by 9 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 37,346 tons, and the export earnings amounted to Rs. 395.40 crore. In the same period last year, exports were 34,365 tons, and the export earnings were Rs. 359.69 crore.
