ICE Cotton futures closed Thursday's session 2 to 60 points higher across the nearby contracts. Crude oil prices rose $2.60 per barrel during the session, while the U.S. Dollar Index was up 0.163 points.
Traders were monitoring the U.S.-China meeting, although no new trade-related information was released. Secretary Bessent stated this week that the two countries are extending the trade truce for two months.
USDA's Export Sales report showed cotton sales of 230,517 RB for the week ending September 17, which was a marketing-year high. Mexico was the largest buyer with 69,800 RB, followed by Vietnam with 51,200 RB. Sales for 2027/28 totaled 122,994 RB, with Mexico accounting for 120,000 RB.
Cotton shipments totaled 164,704 RB, up from the previous week and 20.03% higher than the same week last year. Vietnam was the top destination with 49,000 RB, while 32,100 RB were shipped to India.
The Seam reported sales of 753 bales on Wednesday at an average price of 77.45 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index was up 40 points on September 23 at 93.25 cents per pound. ICE certified cotton stocks were unchanged on September 23 at 29,556 bales. The Adjusted World Price declined 283 points last week to 66.09 cents per pound.
