New Delhi. The Central Government has set a total paddy procurement target of 719.50 lakh tonnes nationwide for the upcoming Kharif Marketing Season, commencing formally on October 1, 2026; this is 1 lakh tonnes lower than the target of 720.50 lakh tonnes fixed for the previous season. Compared to last year, procurement targets have been revised for most states.
According to official data, the paddy procurement target for the 2026-27 Kharif Marketing Season has been increased compared to 2025-26: from 173 lakh tonnes to 180 lakh tonnes for Punjab, from 23.90 lakh tonnes to 28.30 lakh tonnes for Tamil Nadu, and from 23.90 lakh tonnes to 25 lakh tonnes for Andhra Pradesh, while the target for Chhattisgarh has been maintained at last year's level of 109 lakh tonnes.
Conversely, the procurement target for the Central Pool has been reduced for several states: from 64.20 lakh tonnes to 64 lakh tonnes for Odisha, from 62.30 lakh tonnes to 62 lakh tonnes for Uttar Pradesh, from 59.60 lakh tonnes to 58 lakh tonnes for Haryana, from 58.90 lakh tonnes to 57 lakh tonnes for Telangana, from 47.80 lakh tonnes to 46 lakh tonnes for Madhya Pradesh, and from 37.30 lakh tonnes to 35 lakh tonnes for Bihar.
During the 2025-26 Kharif marketing season, 156.50 lakh tonnes of paddy were procured in Punjab, 141 lakh tonnes in Chhattisgarh, 77.50 lakh tonnes in Odisha, 62.30 lakh tonnes in Uttar Pradesh, 62.10 lakh tonnes in Haryana, and 71.80 lakh tonnes in Telangana.
