Dam Water Levels Rise in Western, Central and Southern States

New Delhi. The report of the Central Water Commission shows that due to good rains in the western, central and southern states of the country last week, the water level in dams and reservoirs increased. The water stock in 50 reservoirs of the western region increased to 22.782 billion cubic meters (BCM) which was 76 percent of its total storage capacity of 28.397 BCM.
Under this, the only reservoir of Goa is completely filled with water, while the dams of Maharashtra have 78 percent water and the reservoirs of Gujarat have 63 percent water. Since most parts of Maharashtra have received very heavy rains during the last few days, the water level in the dams there is expected to increase even more.
According to the report of the Commission, there are 28 reservoirs in the central region of the country in which 36.015 BCM water stock is available, which is 74.12 percent of its total storage capacity of 48.588 BCM.
76 percent water is present in the reservoirs of Madhya Pradesh, 73 percent in the dams of Uttar Pradesh and 72 percent in the reservoirs of Chhattisgarh. The water level in the reservoirs of Uttarakhand has improved to 66 percent.
The water level in 45 reservoirs of South India has increased to 43.958 BCM which is 80 percent of its total storage capacity of 54.939 BCM. Monsoon has been quite active there too.
The reservoirs of Tamil Nadu are filled up to 95 percent with water while the dams of Karnataka have 84 percent water stock as compared to the storage capacity,
Andhra Pradesh has 78 percent, Kerala has 72 percent and Telangana has 55 percent water stock. Due to this, more amount of water is expected to be available for irrigation of crops in the upcoming Rabi season.
