Decline in Urad Prices During April

Urad prices witnessed a continuous downward trend across major markets in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

In Maharashtra's Barshi mandi, urad prices started at ₹6500/7700 per quintal at the beginning of the month and gradually fell to ₹6000/7000 by the end of April. Similarly, Mumbai FAQ prices, which initially stood at ₹7350, slipped to ₹7050 in the final week.

In Karnataka’s Gulbarga mandi, prices opened at ₹4500/7600 and remained largely stable throughout the month, ending at ₹4500/7500. This market showed notable stability amid overall trends.

In Chennai, FAQ prices dropped from ₹7250 to ₹6950 per quintal, while SQ prices also declined from ₹7875 to ₹7475 by the month's end.

This month, the urad market clearly reflected the pressure of weak domestic demand, further impacted by an increase in imports.

Typically, the demand for pulses remains low during the summer months, and current prices are considered to have bottomed out.

With some demand support expected, a slight rise in prices may be seen going forward.
