Declining Trend in Tuar (Pigeon Pea) Market in April, Prices Under Pressure

During April 2025, major mandis (markets) in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka witnessed a declining trend in Tuar prices.

In Maharashtra's Akola mandi, Tuar prices started the month at ₹7700–7750 per quintal and gradually fell to ₹7150–7350 by the end of the month.

In Mumbai, the price of Mozambique White Tuar dropped from ₹7150–7250 to around ₹6700. Local varieties like Mawala and Malavi also faced downward pressure, with prices falling from ₹6800 to ₹6600. Mumbai Lemon variety prices declined from ₹7050 to ₹6650.

In Tamil Nadu's Chennai market, Lemon Tuar prices, which were ₹7000–7050 at the beginning of the month, fell to ₹6625–6675 by the end.

Similarly, in Karnataka's Bidar mandi, average Tuar prices fell from ₹7128–7682 to ₹6637–7172 during the month.

The rising inflow of imported Tuar and pressure from the domestic harvest significantly impacted the market prices.

Additionally, weak demand kept the market subdued throughout the month.

Going forward, a slight improvement in Tuar prices is expected.
