Drought Crisis Deepens in Rajasthan; 80 Tehsils Across 14 Districts Declared Drought-Affected

A drought-like situation has emerged in Rajasthan due to a deficient monsoon and rainfall significantly below normal levels. In light of crop damage, declining groundwater levels, and water scarcity, the state government has declared 80 tehsils across 14 districts as severely or moderately drought-affected.

The objective behind this declaration is to assess the situation in the affected areas and pave the way for necessary relief and administrative interventions.

The lack of rainfall is expected to exert pressure on agricultural activities, irrigation, and rural livelihoods. According to available information, 12 tehsils in Jodhpur; 10 each in Jalore and Barmer; 9 in Balotra; and 8 in Pali have been declared drought-affected.

Additionally, 7 tehsils each from Dungarpur, Jaisalmer, and Phalodi are included in the list. Furthermore, 3 tehsils in Banswara; 2 each in Beawar and Churu; and 2 in Bikaner have also been designated as drought-affected.

One tehsil each from Nagaur and Sirohi has also been included. Moving forward, attention will be focused on government measures—ranging from the assessment of drought conditions in the affected regions to the implementation of relief efforts and the provision of potential assistance to farmers.
