Estimated import of 39 thousand tonnes of lentils and 83 thousand tonnes of urad in September

Mumbai. During September 2024, the import of urad in the country is estimated to reach 83,483 tonnes. It is noteworthy that it is mainly imported in India from Myanmar and Brazil.

According to rough estimates, 76 thousand tonnes of urad was imported from Myanmar and 7484 tonnes from Brazil in September.

Its consignment reaches Chennai, JNPT and Kolkata ports. The maximum import takes place at Chennai port. In September, 72,250 tonnes of urad is estimated to be imported at Chennai port, 3983 tonnes at JNPT and 7250 tonnes at Kolkata port.

As far as lentils are concerned, its total import is estimated to be 39,269 tonnes in September 2024. Under this, 22,296 tons of lentils were imported from Australia, 13,411 tons from Canada, 2200 tons from America, 1218 tons from Russia and 144 tons from Turkey.

The maximum import of 20 thousand tons of lentils was done at Kolkata port while 10,897 tons were imported at JNPT, 7851 tons were imported at Tuticorin, 252 tons were imported at Mundra and 243 tons of lentils were imported at Chennai port.

The maximum import of lentils in India is from Australia and Canada. Its sowing season has started here and the government has increased its minimum support price by Rs.275.
