Ethanol blend in petrol reached 15.90 percent in September

New Delhi. The level of ethanol blend in petrol increased to 15.90 percent in September 2024, while in the first 11 months of the current marketing season i.e. from November 2023 to September 2024, this blend was recorded at 13.80 percent overall.
The October data is yet to come out and only after that the blend of the entire marketing season will be known.
According to official data, during September 2024, 58.6 crore liters of ethanol was procured by oil marketing companies (OMCs) under the Ethanol Blending Program (EBP), while its total purchase during November 2023 to September 2024 reached 585.20 crore liters.
Similarly, 62.40 crore liters of ethanol was blended in petrol in September, while during November 2023 to September 2024, a total of 607.40 crore liters of ethanol was blended in petrol.
It is noteworthy that the Central Government has set a target of blending 20 percent ethanol in petrol by the year 2025 and it is also confident of achieving this target.
This target includes ethanol produced from sugarcane as well as grains. For this, the government has given free hand to sugar mills and distilleries to use sugarcane and at the same time the use of maize is also being encouraged in the production of ethanol.
Oil marketing companies have invited tenders for the supply of 916 crore liters of denatured enhydrous ethanol for the ethanol supply year 2024-25, while suppliers have responded to supply more than this quantity.
A total of over 970 crore litres of ethanol has been offered for supply by manufacturers across the country.
