Exceptional heavy rain alert in West and North-West India, crops under threat: IMD
★ The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of extremely heavy rainfall over West and North-West India in the coming days.
★ In East Gujarat (Valsad, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara), heavy rainfall is expected on Saturday. East Rajasthan is likely to witness heavy to very heavy rain on Friday and Saturday, while South-West Rajasthan may face exceptional rainfall on Sunday. Saurashtra-Kutch is forecast to receive heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday. Other regions, including Konkan-Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, Punjab and East Uttar Pradesh, are also likely to see heavy rainfall on different days next week.

Continuous and intense rains may severely impact several kharif crops:
★ Cotton: In Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, waterlogging could damage plants and affect quality.
★ Soybean and pulses: In Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, harvesting may be delayed and grain damage is possible.
★ Groundnut and bajra: In Gujarat and Rajasthan, crops face the risk of lodging and rotting.
★ Paddy: In Uttarakhand, East UP and Chhattisgarh, water accumulation in fields may trigger diseases.
★ September rains could significantly affect both productivity and quality of kharif crops, potentially determining the future outlook for this season’s harvest.
