★ The government should take some steps to increase the production of pulses in the country.
★ Dependence on imports should be reduced.
★ Pulse farmers in the country should get adequate prices.

Announcement
★ The government launched the National Pulses Mission for the next 6 years under which emphasis will be laid on increasing the production of pulses.
★ So that dependence on import of pulses is reduced.
★ Government agencies NAFED, NCCF were announced to buy maximum quantity of tur, urad, lentil for the next 4 years.

Impact on markets
★ If the production of pulses increases, then it will reduce self-reliance from foreign countries. That is, whatever cost is incurred in importing pulses will be used in India.
★ It remains to be seen how these schemes are implemented at the ground level.
