Fall in Pulse Retail Prices: Relief for Consumers, Rising Concerns for Farmers
★ According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs (Price Monitoring Division), the all-India average retail prices of five major pulses have declined both over the past one month and compared to the same period last year.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Prices (₹ per kg) as on 10 July 2025:
Gram Dal: ₹86.06 (₹89.31 last year, -3.64%)
Tur/Arhar Dal: ₹120.82 (₹168.39 last year, -28.25%)
Urad Dal: ₹115.43 (₹127.64 last year, -9.57%)
Moong Dal: ₹110.9 (₹118.87 last year, -6.70%)
Masoor Dal: ₹88.26 (₹94.09 last year, -6.20%)
~~~~~~~~
One-month trend:
★ Prices of all major pulses have seen a slight decline in the last month. Only masoor dal has shown a marginal increase of 0.18%.
★ While this decline brings some relief to consumers, it raises concerns for farmers as their incomes may take a hit.
★ If this price trend continues, it could affect the sowing of pulses during the current Kharif season.
★ There is an urgent need for government intervention to maintain a balance in the market and support both consumers and producers.
