Farmers will get relief due to good increase in MSP of pulses, oilseeds and millets

New Delhi. The Central Government has increased the minimum support price (MSP) of pulses, oilseeds and coarse grains (millets) during the Kharif season,
which is likely to provide relief to the farmers. But this relief can be obtained only when the government itself purchases it sufficiently at the support price or motivates the industry and trade sector to buy it.
Actually, on the one hand, the government purchases pulses and oilseeds in limited quantity from the farmers and on the other hand,
it imposes many types of controls on the industry and trade, due to which it does not get the incentive to buy it at a higher price.
This year, good rainfall is expected in the southwest monsoon season, which can help farmers in increasing the sowing area and production of the above crops. If the farmers get attractive and profitable prices for their products along with the increase in production,
then their enthusiasm and attraction towards its cultivation will remain intact in the future as well. This is also necessary because due to the huge gap between demand and supply in the domestic sector, India remains the largest importer of pulses and edible oils in the world. A huge amount of precious foreign currency is spent on this.
This time, compared to last year, the minimum support price of most Kharif crops has been increased by 6 to 12 percent.
The government wants to make the country self-sufficient in the matter of pulses and oilseeds, but the efforts necessary for this are not being given much attention. For example,
the government has allowed the import of sunflower oil and refined rapeseed oil under the tariff rate quota system, while there is no need for this.
Huge imports of sunflower oil are already taking place at very cheap prices, while the price of mustard oil remains stable within a certain limit.
