Farmers worried about the falling price of soybean appealed to the government

Latur. Although the Central Government has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of soybean to Rs 4892 per quintal for the marketing season 2024-25, which is Rs 292 or 6.3 percent more than the Rs 4600 per quintal of the previous season,
but its price in the major mandis of Maharashtra has come down to between Rs 2800 to Rs 4400 per quintal. Due to this, the farmers are very worried and upset and are pleading for intervention from the government.
The price of soybean in Maharashtra has come down to Rs 2800 in Hinganghat and Rs 3000 per quintal in Lasalgaon Vinchur.
Although its price rose to a high level of Rs 4800 in Latur and Rs 5200 per quintal in Sangli, but the model price in most mandis is now running much below the MSP.
It is understood that the price of goods with high moisture has come down a lot. The model price of soybean has come between 4000 and 4600 rupees per quintal.
This model price was recorded at 4650 rupees per quintal in Latur and 4445 rupees per quintal in Amravati the previous day.
According to the Agriculture Minister of Maharashtra, the Central Government has approved the opening of soybean purchase centers in the state for 90 days so that this oilseed crop can be purchased from farmers at MSP.
Urad will also be purchased at MSP. The Maharashtra government is also pressuring the Center to increase the import duty on edible oil, soy milk and soy cake.
On the other hand, a demand has been made to give a subsidy of 50 dollars per ton on the export of soybean. This is providing a lot of relief to the farmers there.
