New Delhi: Following a peace agreement between Iran and the United States, four ships carrying chemical fertilizers and raw materials used in their production have crossed the Strait of Hormuz and are heading toward India. These shipments reportedly include about 1.80 lakh tonnes of fertilizers and related inputs, including approximately 92,250 tonnes of urea.

However, according to senior official sources, later developments linked to tensions over the Lebanon issue led Iran to temporarily close the Strait of Hormuz.

Sources indicate that since the outbreak of conflict and tensions in West Asia, around 3.30 lakh tonnes of urea and 2.20–2.50 lakh tonnes of DAP have been stuck near the Strait of Hormuz on large vessels. Some of these ships have now been cleared to proceed and have successfully crossed the strait.

Among them, two vessels carrying 50,000 tonnes and 42,750 tonnes of urea respectively are expected to arrive at the ports of Krishnapatnam and Kakinada in the coming days.

Two other ships carrying 32,251 tonnes of sulphur and 55,000 tonnes of DAP are expected to reach the ports of Paradip and Mundra, respectively.
