FSSAI cancels manufacturing license of 111 spice exporters of the country

New Delhi. In April 2024, when the ban on the sale of some spice products of two top Indian companies in Singapore and Hong Kong was announced, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Spices Board became more active.
The authority started collecting samples of spices in various cities within the country and then got its quality tested in laboratories.
On the basis of its report, the authority has cancelled the manufacturing license of 111 spice producers across the country and directed them to stop the manufacture (production) of spice products with immediate effect.
According to informed sources, the process of collecting samples of spice products and getting them laboratory tested is still going on and the manufacturing license of some other firms and brands may be canceled further.
It is worth noting that the authority is getting laboratory testing of about 4000 samples of spice products done across the country. This also includes spice products of many well-known and popular companies.
According to the information received, the authority tested 2200 samples of spice products, out of which 111 samples did not meet the basic quality standards.
The license of the manufacturers of these spice products was cancelled. It is understood that the number of testing centers under the authority is less, so there is a delay in giving the report after testing.
Due to this, many companies waiting for the result are confused. No one has any information about which firms' manufacturing license may be cancelled in the future, but it is certain that this decision of the authority has created a stir in the Indian spice market.
There is a possibility of action being taken on small spice manufacturers of Kerala, Tamil Nadu as well as Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
