★ Indonesia has lifted the ban on importing groundnuts (peanuts) from India, but Indian exporters are reluctant to ship consignments, citing very strict and risky new norms.
★ Indonesia had suspended imports in September 2025 due to higher aflatoxin levels. While imports are now allowed, only about 75 exporters have been approved, along with requirements such as geo-tagging, stringent testing, and suspension even for minor non-compliance.
★ Exporters allege that Indonesia’s testing procedures do not align with World Trade Organisation standards and that test reports are often delayed. As a result, only about 800 tonnes of groundnuts have been exported since the ban was lifted.
★ Meanwhile, India’s groundnut production is at a record high, and strong domestic demand has pushed prices up, further reducing interest in exporting to Indonesia.
