New Delhi. In the western state of India, Gujarat, the government procured 1.62 lakh tonnes of peanuts worth ₹1,177 crore from over 70,000 farmers over the past 11 days. This purchase of the oilseed in Gujarat, the country's leading peanut producer,
was made at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) set by the central government. The state's Deputy Chief Minister stated that over 9.31 lakh farmers in Gujarat have already registered to sell their peanuts at MSP.
The above data clearly indicates that the wholesale market price of peanuts in Gujarat has fallen well below the government's support price.
A strong inflow of new Kharif peanuts is underway, and the government has now begun massive procurement.
The procurement process began on November 9th and will continue for a long time. The Gujarat government has planned to procure various Kharif crops worth ₹15,000 crore from farmers during the current season,
for which the central government's approval has already been received. For the 2025-26 marketing season, the central government has fixed the MSP for peanuts at ₹7,263 per quintal, green gram at ₹8,768 per quintal, and black gram at ₹7,800 per quintal, while the MSP for soybean has been set at ₹5,328.
Due to adverse weather and natural disasters, various Kharif crops in Gujarat were damaged, and the government has announced two relief packages for farmers.
However, due to a significant increase in peanut sowing area, production is expected to improve this year. Peanuts are receiving strong arrivals in major markets, including Rajkot and Gondal.
Farmers are attempting to sell their produce to the government as quickly as possible at the minimum support price. This is expected to improve market prices.
