Government Removes Old HS Codes for Rice in New Notification
★ The government issued a notification yesterday removing several old HS Codes related to rice. The removed codes are as follows:
HS CODE: COMMODITY
10063010: Rice Parboiled
10063020: Basmati Rice
10063090: Others
★ These have been replaced with the following new HS Codes:
HS CODE: COMMODITY
10013011: Parboiled – Rice, GI Recognised
10063012: Parboiled – Basmati Rice
10063019: Parboiled – Other
10063091: Others – Rice, GI Recognised
10063092: Other – Basmati Rice
10063099: Other
★ The main objective behind these changes in HS Codes is to bring more transparency to exports. It was often observed that exports were being misclassified under various HS Codes. With the introduction of the new codes, such irregularities in rice exports are expected to be curtailed.
