New Delhi: According to the Food Corporation of India (FCI), government wheat procurement has reached 18.96 lakh tonnes nationally as of April 7, 2025, sharply higher than 7.20 lakh tonnes procured during the same period last year.
Madhya Pradesh leads with 16.50 lakh tonnes, nearly 10 lakh tonnes more than last year. Rajasthan also saw a sharp rise, procuring 1.51 lakh tonnes, up from just 21,000 tonnes last year. Both states are offering additional bonuses to farmers for wheat.
In contrast, procurement remains limited in Punjab (33 tonnes), Gujarat (1240 tonnes), and Bihar (2253 tonnes), although wheat arrivals are expected to pick up in the next 15 days, especially in Punjab and Haryana.
Uttar Pradesh, where no bonus is offered, has procured 89,000 tonnes and remains a key market for flour millers and companies. According to I Grain India, total procurement this season could exceed 280 lakh tonnes.
