Vijayawada. There are reports of heavy damage to Kharif crops in the southern state of the country- Andhra Pradesh, due to torrential rains,
floods in many areas and waterlogging in the fields, especially in the coastal districts, due to which the farmers are very worried and disappointed.
According to initial information, there has been a lot of devastation due to damage to paddy nurseries and Kharif crops in lakhs of acres of land.
According to the Agriculture Department, Kharif crops have been extensively damaged in more than 47 mandals of Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Palnadu, Eluru and West Godavari districts.
In this sequence, the crops that have suffered the most damage mainly include red chilli, crop paddy and pulses.
According to official sources, crops have been submerged in more than 2 lakh acres of land due to heavy rains, floods and inundation.
The field staff of the agriculture department is struggling to assess the actual damage as it is facing a lot of difficulty in reaching far-flung areas due to waterlogging everywhere.
It is worth mentioning that due to irregular and uncertain rainfall of the south-west monsoon, the sowing of Kharif crops got delayed in Andhra Pradesh this time and when its pace started increasing, the fields got submerged.
Heavy rains have been occurring in many districts of the state for the last two-three days. Agriculture experts say that if the spell of rain continues for the next one or two days, then Kharif crops may get damaged in a larger area.
The chances of red chilli and cotton nurseries remaining safe are said to be very low while pulse crops are also facing a serious threat.
