Nizamabad. Due to increased monsoon activity during the last two weeks, heavy rains occurred in many districts of Telangana, due to which the fields in the low-lying areas were flooded.

As a result, Kharif crops are reported to be damaged in at least 15 thousand acres of area. Due to heavy rains and waterlogging in the fields,

Kharif crops like paddy, cotton and maize are reported to be damaged in districts like Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Nalgonda and Sangareddy of the state. Crops have also been damaged in Medak district.

According to initial assessment, crops have been destroyed in 10-15 thousand acres of area in the state. While officially its assessment is yet to be done.

The minister in charge of Adilabad district has directed the officials to complete the survey work as soon as possible. In Medak district, paddy and cotton as well as jowar, moong and urad crops have been damaged in about 4000 acres of area. Whereas farmers claim that the actual damage has occurred in twice that area.

Similarly, the initial estimate of crop damage is 400 acres in Sangareddy district, 3553 acres in Siddipet, 500 acres in Nizamabad, 3500 acres in Kamareddy and the maximum 5500 acres in Adilabad district.

It is worth mentioning that paddy and cotton are produced on a large scale in Telangana during the Kharif season, while maize, tur, urad, moong and soybean etc.

are also cultivated. Earlier, there was a great lack of monsoon rains in the state and till the end of July, there was less rainfall than the normal average, but in August the monsoon changed and then heavy rains started in various districts of the state.

The crop has been particularly damaged due to the sudden torrential rains in some districts because these crops are not able to tolerate waterlogging for long.

The interesting fact is that the ideal time for cultivating Kharif crops in Telangana has not ended yet, so farmers are re-sowing in the damaged areas. Therefore, the cost of cultivation will increase.
