Heavy rains disrupt supply; WISMA urges extension of September 2025 sugar quota
★ Due to heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat, the sugar industry has requested the government to extend the September 2025 sugar release quota until 15 October.
★ In a letter to the Department of Food and Public Distribution, the West Indian Sugar Mills Association said that sugar lifting and transportation have been severely affected by the rains, and sugarcane as well as other crops have also suffered damage.
★ The government has fixed the sugar quota at 23.5 lakh tonnes for September 2025 and 24 lakh tonnes for October.
