Heavy Waterlogging Damages Kharif Crops in Hisar

Hisar. Due to heavy rains of southwest monsoon last month, water life was affected in many villages of Hisar district in Haryana and due to waterlogging in the fields, many other Kharif crops including cotton are reported to have suffered heavy losses.
Initial survey conducted by the Agriculture Department has revealed that crops have been damaged in more than 80 thousand acres of land. Cotton crop has suffered the most damage in this.
A survey report has been prepared by the office of the Deputy Director of Agriculture and sent to the state headquarters.
According to this report, cotton and paddy crops have been damaged in 25-30 percent area due to waterlogging. Cotton crop in about 39,743 acres and paddy crop in 24,200 acres have been damaged.
Apart from this, moong in 4290 acres, millets in 6452 acres, groundnut in 730 acres, cluster bean in 2845 acres and fodder crop in 1930 acres have been destroyed.
In some areas of Hansi and Bas blocks in Hisar district, 75-100 percent of cotton, groundnut and millets crops have been destroyed, while in other parts of the district also 26 to 50 percent of crops are expected to be damaged.
It is worth mentioning that the level of damage has been divided into four groups by the Agriculture Department, which includes groups of 0 to 25 percent, 26 to 50 percent, 51 to 75 percent and 76 to 100 percent.
However, there has been no damage to cotton and paddy crops in Narnaund, Barwala and Uklana blocks of Hisar district. Similarly, paddy crops have not been damaged in Adampur and Agroha blocks, but crops have been damaged in Hansi and Bas blocks.
According to the Deputy Director of Agriculture, the final report is still being prepared. Cotton crop has been damaged the most because it is extremely sensitive to waterlogging in the fields.
